The Northeaster has been published since 1978, and has been
owned by Pro Media, Inc., Kerry Ashmore and Margo Ashmore, since 1981.
It initially circulated only in the Northeast section of Minneapolis,
which is north of downtown and east of the Mississippi River. In 1983,
the adjacent suburban cities of St. Anthony, Columbia Heights and Hilltop
were added to the Northeaster's every-home, twice-monthly circulation.

NorthNews was started in 1991, when we finally got tired of hearing
people say, "Somebody like the Ashmores should start a paper on the
North Side." The monthly NorthNews is delivered free to all the
Minneapolis homes north of Interstate Highway 394 and west of the
Mississippi River.
